Is It Time For Your Divorce?

Dearly beloved, we have gathered here today to get through this thing called life. This phrase was coined by the late great Prince Roger Nelson in his music at the begging of his song “Let’s Go Crazy”. The concept of the phrase itself closely resembles the opening line of many wedding nuptial ceremonies, as it brings a call of attention to the agreement for two people to unite and become one for the remainder of their life.  Their life? That is a long and or short time. As a result of accepting a person for who they are today, and not always enjoying the person that they become, about 50 percent of marriages end in divorce.

In the United States, it is reported that every 38 seconds someone gets divorced. This equates to 94 divorces per hour, 2,272 divorces per day, 15,908 divorces per week, and 827,261 divorces per year.  When you think about it, this must equal a massive amount of toasts, first dances, gifts, and I do’s, that somehow lead to I don’t anymore. There are countless reasons that couples decide to separate from one another, as there are some situations and circumstances that can stress and complicate relationships to the point of termination. Some couples separate on the grounds of irreconcilable differences which is inclusive of any sort of difference between the two parties that cannot or will not be changed, which leads to an individual feeling that they must separate from the relationship for their own good. Once the relationship is deemed “unchangeable” the person who files for the legal separation truly does live out the phrase “be the change you want to see” as they formally file for divorce. Divorce allows the separated individuals the freedom to think, act, and become independent to fully pursue whatever form of better than their marriage was holding them from.

So my question today is; What do you need to divorce from?

Although divorce is a legal term for the separation of a couple united in marriage, I want you to think of divorce in a more casual context. Consider divorce describing a separation from anything that hinders you from prospering in the direction that you want to go. People in marriages get divorced ultimately to create other relationships that are going to serve themselves best. So in your life, what things are you’re willing to divorce from in order to replace them with things that will better you. For some it may be a separation from drinking, drugs, gambling or even a job, while for others it could be procrastination, placing blame, mental conditioning, or whatever has been identified as a barrier to keeping you from becoming your best. Change is constant, and as you change so do other people and relationships. Be sure that you are creating and maintaining healthy relationships in all aspects of your life, as these will allow you to live happily ever after until death do you part.

Remove negativity replace it with positive things, things that make you better.
